Harvest tulips when the bud just starts to show color. Tulips store well in a cooler and have a long vase life of 7-10 days. If you want to perennialize your tulips you must leave at least 2 leaf set in order for the tulip to photosynthesize energy back into the bulb for next year's blooms. If using as an annual you can pull the flower bulb and all and store upright a the cooler without water for up to two weeks. When ready to use, cut off the bulb and place in water. Tulips grow 1-2" after harvesting, something to keep in mind when designing with.
